The ophthalmologist studies and offers targeted solutions and treatments for all conditions affecting the eye, from childhood (congenital diseases, refractive errors) to adulthood (eye tumours, diseases of the retina, cornea and lens).
Today’s surgical techniques make it possible to treat common conditions, such as cataracts and glaucoma, or complex ones, such as tumours, retinal degeneration and keratoconus.
Dedicated lasers can correct refractive errors such as short-sightedness (myopia), long-sightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism.
Specific instrumental tests such as visual field, pachymetry, OCT, endothelial cell count, corneal mapping, tonometry and biometry are carried out daily by our specialists. All test results are reported by a specialist doctor.
Social Medicine eye examination in Portogruaro
In November and December Dr Maurizio Della Sala carries out eye examinations under Social Medicine at our Portogruaro centre, for €75, on dedicated days.

Cataract surgery
You can have cataract surgery either through agreements with the main health funds and insurers or under the Italian National Health Service (SSN), paying only the prescription charge (ticket), if due.
max30days
Also under the SSN, with a maximum wait of 30 days. The operation is carried out at the San Vito al Tagliamento centre.
Refractive surgery
Refractive surgery is a procedure that corrects vision problems such as short-sightedness, long-sightedness and astigmatism. It uses a laser to reshape the cornea and improve the eye’s ability to focus, reducing dependence on glasses or contact lenses.
- PRK
- FemtoLASIK
- SMILE
- Intraocular lenses
Refractive surgery is carried out at the San Vito al Tagliamento centre.
Eye surgery
In our outpatient eye surgery clinic at the San Vito al Tagliamento centre, the following cataract and minor surgery procedures can be carried out:

- Intravitreal injection
- Subconjunctival injection
- Removal of eyelid growths
- Probing and irrigation of the tear ducts
- Lacrimal plug insertion
- Xanthelasma
- Removal of eyelid chalazion
- Retinal laser therapy
- CXL: cross-linking for keratoconus

Paediatric ophthalmology
The paediatric ophthalmology clinic sees all patients referred by paediatricians for routine check-ups, as well as young patients with vision problems (short-sightedness, long-sightedness, astigmatism) and congenital malformations.
Orthoptics
Orthoptics is a branch of ophthalmology that deals with disorders of the eye muscles or the nerves that control them, disorders of binocular vision and, in general, sensory disorders affecting the visual system.
Assessment of disorders: tests and measurements are used to assess the extent of any problems (squint, eye muscle paralysis, focusing difficulties, etc.), leading to a complete diagnosis.
Treatment of disorders: the orthoptist can teach the patient special “eye exercises”; thanks to these, the problem can improve and in some cases disappear altogether.
The orthoptic examination is aimed above all at children because, with early diagnosis and the right exercises, the problems found can be resolved.
Teamwork
A particular feature of orthoptics is the close teamwork that develops between the ophthalmologist, the orthoptist and the patient.
- Orthoptic assessment
- Objective functional eye tests
- Orthoptic training
- Visual rehabilitation
- Vision screening
